THE FACTS

Opia, the government our heroes go against, has complete control over its citizens through the usage of  heavy censoring of information and denial, propaganda, denial of individual liberty in thought, and enforcement of conformity. Its grasp grows tighter every year, with their secretive experiments, undercover brutality and hidden motives for control.

THE FACTS: SYMBOLISM

image.png

The ankle bells resemble a prisoner's ball and chain, giving immediate insight on Alma's entrapment and, therefore, the significance of their escape. The different shapes embedded on the bells allude to the apparent innocence and benevolence in Opia, as stars usually are a symbol of wonder and destiny, however the system/government weaponises these symbols (along with other symbols of wonder: e.g. eyes) to hide behind.

Did you notice the finer details that our prop and costume department subtly included? Here are some fun facts and analysis for those avid fanatics!

So much lies behind the surface... what appears to be simple medication is revealed to be the very thing keeping the whole of Opia's citizens in submission to their infinitely powerful regime, and even pliant in their every act.

These are the Servatrix samples: Drugged substances disguised as simple pain relievers that are distributed to the corrupt citizens, making them dependent and weak through addiction.

The Latin word actually holds much meaning, having many different interpretations... which one do you prefer? Let us know
